Another post! Yes, a second! I’m crap at this, me.

Last night you’ll inescapably know that it was the 76th Annual Academy Awards. Did you stay up to watch it? Do you even care? I did. And I can’t help but care. I do care who wins, dammit, as much as I know it’s all a lot of silly boxchecking and in-bummery; it matters, dammit, that the right people(s) win. And they did. Didn’t they?

Well yes they did. [set gush to stun]OH MY GOD! (I’m an athiest, fact fans) How freaking fantastic was that?! 11/11! Not only was the show marvellous (stand up Crystal et al, you’re all total legends) but the awards went to the right people. I was left somewhat voiceless not to mention totally exhuberent after several teary (yes, dammit, I know) phone calls post-Best Picture award to fellow filmsy friends, just sharing how totally happy we were for the LotR gang over in LA. Every movie-making (or, aspiring) cell in my body wanted to be there, in the Kodak theatre, hugging Peter Jackson over and over and over and over and…

So, yes. I’m very, very, very happy with the results. They were all good films - all good people, too - nominated for the awards, but I would’ve been destraught if:

1) PJ had lost out in his category of Best Director - ultimately all the other Oscars (bar, perhaps, Best Picture) would have been rendered moot if he had not got the nod because it would show that the Academy members didn’t truly recognise the achievement of himself. But they did. So well done Academy!
2) RotK had lost out in Best Picture - obvious, really. What kind of downer would that have been?! Well, who cares now, it’s all wonderfully over.

Please excuse my total auto-gush, but I love those films and those people, as I’m sure a lot of you do too, and last night (this morning/whatever) was just perfect. I’ll stop now ;)
